Oracle has released the RedwoodUI for WebCenter Content. It is available in the Marketplace releases of 12c and will also be available in 14c. This UI is built using Oracle’s Redwood Templates and is a new and fresh take on the user interface for WCC. Previously WCC had two main interfaces
RedwoodUI seems to be a replacement for the Content UI, as the native interface is embedded in the WCC managed server. The UI has all the tasks needed for the content worker to do their daily jobs – document check-in, search, view, workflow etc. Below are some screenshots included in RedwoodUI.

RedwoodUI is an Oracle JET application, built and then deployed to WCC as a component. The deployed component files are made up of generated JavaScript files from the JET application (via Oracle’s Visual Studio). Compared to the ADF content UI as its own managed server, the deployment (i.e. upgrade) is a very simple process. The component comes standard with WCC and can simply be enabled and then the UI is available at http://[server-address]/cs/idcplg?IdcService=REDWOODUI.

The content UI was built using Oracle’s Application Development Framework (ADF). This was (and still is) a challenging framework to extend and customize for individual customer’s needs. While RedwoodUI is not yet extendable for customizations, it has the framework to do so. I’ve asked and have been assured that allowing partners to extend this interface is on the roadmap. Given the JET-based development framework of RedwoodUI, the process to extend/customize this interface should be much easier than was available with ADF. It will be a great advantage to WCC customers to be able to apply all UI customizations that are in either the native or content UIs to this new interface for WCC.
